Introduction

In September 2015, Uzbekistan along with other countries of the world, declared its commitment to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure inclusive and sustained economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection, as well as contribute to ensuring peace and security in the world. To support this, the Government of Uzbekistan adopted Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 841 of October 20, 2018: "On measures to implement the National goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development for the period until 2030". The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to end poverty and hunger, reduce inequalities within and between countries, ensure healthy lifestyle, equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, gender equality, promote sustained and inclusive economic growth, full and productive employment for all, ensure access to housing and widespread adoption of the "green economy", ensure environmental sustainability and other critical areas related to improving the quality of life of people.

Aim of the conference

The conference is a joint initiative between The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, UNDP in Uzbekistan, the World Bank in Uzbekistan, University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT). WIUT is the host of the conference and member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

The conference aims to discuss ongoing socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan, their importance in achieving national SDGs, to exchange knowledge, share ongoing research and policy efforts, and identify gaps for improvement and future strategies. The conference will host world-renowned scholars, representatives of the government and private sector, representatives of international agencies and think tanks. Among them, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network; Mr. Sodyq Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Ms. Matilda Dimovska, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan; Mr. Marco Mantovanelli, Country Manager for the Republic of Uzbekistan, World Bank; Mr. Alisher Sadullaev, Director of the Youth Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Prof. Richard Pomfret, Adelaide University (Australia); Dr. Johan Swinnen, Director General, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Global Director, CGIAR Systems Transformation Science Group (USA); Prof. Charles Becker, Duke University (USA). In the second part of the conference, organizers plan to invite youth representatives of Uzbekistan with presentations on «Achieving National SDGs with the Words of Youth: Social and Innovative Projects».

Venue and mode of the conference

The conference will be organized at Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), Uzbekistan, in a hybrid mode bringing in-person and virtual participants together. The first part of the conference will be a plenary session by distinguished guests & speakers, representatives of Ministries of Uzbekistan and international agencies. The second part of the conference will include presentations by youth representatives. The working language of the conference will be English. Simultaneous translation to Uzbek and Russian will be provided.
